Ball skills

This term we are learning some ball skills when working with larger balls (basketballs, netballs, rugby balls, soccer balls). Today Miss Costello took us for a catching and throwing lesson.

Swimming starts tomorrow

Swimming starts tomorrow - Wednesday the 1st of March and goes every day until Friday the 10th of March.

Children need to remember - togs
                                             - goggles
                                             - a towel
                                             - a jacket
                                             - sensible shoes

It is helpful if children bring these in a swimming bag (or plastic bag) and that clothing is named.

Assembly Awards

It was the first assembly of the year today. Room 11 did a great job of presenting their messages about Road Safety. At this assembly, Saydie and Samuel got a Principal's Award. Well done for being the first people in the class to receive one of these special awards this year.

Letter of the Week - P

Once again we had an amazing range of projects brought in for our optional extras this week.

Milly brought along her very cool owl pillow - that she made herself!

Samuel brought his model of a British war plane (called a Phantom) that he had made, and he told us a lot of interesting facts which he presented in a great powerpoint.

Anna taught us all about Panda's. It is so sad that they are endangered!

Dominic brought along some juicy, healthy pears and taught us some facts about them.

Ewan told some interesting facts about Pugs and we learnt all about his special pug Mili.

Sam taught us about Portugal - a country in Europe. We can find this continent on the map after our continent mapping skills that we did in class!

Lucy found out some interesting things about pineapples. She chose an interesting way to display her facts - on a pineapple that had been cut out of paper!

We also had some fabulous powerpoints by Hannah and Evie. They taught us about the platypus and penguins. It was clear that they had put in a lot of effort when creating their presentations.

The PTA (Parent Teacher Association) have asked that we share the name of their facebook page with you all. Please look up 'GSNS Friends of the PTA'. It will be a good way of getting regular updates about happenings in the school.

The PTA are a wonderful group of parents that do a lot to support our school. I know that they are looking for helpers this year, as our bi-annual school fair is coming up. Please do all you can to support them. Thank you.

We visited the art gallery!

Today we visited John at the Art Gallery. We looked at paintings of landscapes, and then we created pictures of sunrises over the Otago Peninsula. We have put some examples of some of them below. You will have to come in to visit to see the others.

Our spelling site of the week

Today we got our very first homework sheet of the year. On this there is an address to the spelling site that we will be using this week. You may like to click the link below, rather than type it all out!

Here is the address for our spelling site this week.
http://www.amblesideprimary.com/ambleweb/lookcover/lookcover.html

This site spells encyclopedia this way - encyclopaedia. It can be spelt this way, but most commonly in New Zealand we spell it like this - encyclopedia
